Why You Deserve and Need a Doula (Even If Your Partner Thinks You Don’t)
Connecticut + New York Birth Support That’s Real, Compassionate, and a Little Bit Sassy
Looking for doula services in Connecticut or New York? Here’s why having a doula matters—especially when the world is wild, your birth matters, and your partner insists “they’ve got it.”
Let’s be honest: the world is… a lot right now.
Between the economy doing cartwheels and the political landscape being what it is (deep sigh), expecting a baby can feel both beautiful and totally overwhelming. And when you’re preparing to bring a new life into this chaos, what you don’t need is more noise—you need grounded, reliable, experienced support.
That’s where I come in. I’m Desirae, a certified birth doula and the founder of Harmony Births. I provide doula services across all of Connecticut and in Brooklyn, NYC—and I support families through everything in-person, and Everything But the Birth (like the bagel seasoning).
But Wait—What Is a Doula Again?
A doula is your birth BFF, hype woman, calm-in-the-storm guide, and evidence-based translator all rolled into one. I’m trained to offer continuous emotional, physical, and informational support during pregnancy, labor, and postpartum. That means I hold the space, hold your hand, and sometimes even hold your leg (if that’s your thing) while helping you feel informed and confident every step of the way.
“But My Partner Will Be There—We Don’t Need a Doula.”
Bless their hearts.
Yes, your partner (or mom, or sister, or best friend) is an amazing support system. But unless they’ve been trained in labor support, understand physiological birth, know hospital systems, and have practiced comfort techniques under pressure—they’re not a doula.
And that’s okay! They shouldn’t have to be. I don’t replace your partner—I help both of you feel more prepared, less panicked, and way more connected during the birth process. When everyone’s supported, everyone shows up better.
Why Families in Connecticut + Brooklyn Choose Me
I’ve supported over 250 births in the last 9 years. Many of my clients come to me after infertility, loss, trauma, or just plain exhaustion. I support:
• First-time parents who want to go in with a game plan
• Families navigating VBACs or high-risk pregnancies
• Those expecting via surrogacy or IVF
• LGBTQ+ and non-traditional families
• And yes, partners who initially said, “We’ll be fine on our own” (only to sing a different tune after our first prenatal session)
Whether you’re birthing in a major hospital in New Haven or Brooklyn, or want education and virtual support in Fairfield County, my approach is inclusive, judgment-free, evidence-based, and deeply human.
Services Offered (Including Virtual!)
I support births across:
• Connecticut: Fairfield, New Haven, Hartford, Middlesex, Litchfield, New London, Tolland, Windham Counties
• Brooklyn + Manhattan
• And virtually anywhere with Wi-Fi and a tired pregnant person
Not sure you want someone in the room, or giving birth out of state? My virtual doula services are robust and real—not just a check-in call. Think: personalized education, emotional coaching, text support during labor, and tools to help your partner actually know what to do.
Also? The Fourth Trimester Matters
Postpartum is real. I offer postpartum doula support to help with everything from feeding challenges to sleep-deprived meltdowns to just talking through your birth and how it all went down.
You don’t need to do any of this alone.
Let’s Wrap It Up (Before You Go into Labor)
Birth matters. How you feel about your birth matters. And you deserve support that gets that—whether you’re birthing after loss, navigating a high-risk pregnancy, or just want someone who won’t flinch when you scream “I changed my mind!”
So if you’re in Connecticut or Brooklyn and thinking about doula services, let’s talk. No pressure, no awkward sales pitch—just a real convo about what you need and how I can help.
